Hastings 10 year old makes splash with charity swim
05 December 2013
A 10 year old boy from Hastings is planning to swim half a mile in 30 minutes to raise important funds for the leading UK charity Farm Africa, which is working to tackle hunger across eastern Africa.
Daniel Wilson, a pupil at Guestling Bradshaw Primary School, will dive head first into his fundraising challenge at the Summerfields Leisure Centre on Tuesday 10th December.
Swimming against the clock, Daniel will try to notch up as many lengths as he can in the 30 minute session. Although a strong swimmer, who has swimming lessons and plays water polo each week, Daniel will still be up against it as he tries to find the stamina to squeeze in 7 lengths more than his usual average.
This is not the first time Daniel has raised money for Farm Africa. In fact, he is a dedicated supporter. For the last 3 years he has ridden his beloved horse Finley in the local, sponsored Ride for Africa. This is a 10 mile equestrian ride across farm land in nearby Fairlight, Pett and Guestling, organised by another avid and long-term Farm Africa fundraiser – local farmer Tim Jury.
When asked what motivated him to take on this new challenge, Daniel replied:
“I love swimming and I would like to help lots of other people in Africa to help them grow more food to feed themselves.”

About Farm Africa
Farm Africa believes that Africa’s farmers can feed Africa’s people. It provides solutions before hunger becomes an emergency, investing in farmers to give them the tools and skills they need to feed their families. It also trains farmers’ groups in how to market and sell what they farm so their families see change not just for this harvest but for years to come.
